Electric Power Engineers CEO Hala Ballouz:
A Leading Voice on Utility-Scale Solar Integration

Providing Tools to Build a Green Energy Future at Solar Power International

DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Electric Power Engineers, Inc. (EPE), a leading global consultant of power-delivery design solutions for transmission & distribution systems, planning and engineering project management for generation developers, announces that President and CEO Hala Ballouz will be speaking and moderating two sessions at Solar Power International, the largest solar conference in North America. On Tuesday, October 18th, 2011 at 10:30 AM - 12:00 PM Ballouz leads a panel on “Utility-Scale Solar - Pioneering Texas Projects and Negotiating the Trail Ahead.” On Wednesday, October 19th, at 10:30 AM - 12:00 PM, Ballouz speaks on the “Economics of Designing and Integrating Solar Projects into the Grid.”

“Economics of Designing and Integrating Solar Projects into the Grid.”

Solar Power International (SPI) is North America's largest, most comprehensive solar power trade show and conference. This annual, business-to-business event was the first of its kind in North America and grows bigger and better every year and is truly a global event. Solar Power International 2011 takes place at the Dallas Convention Center October 17-20.

“Across the nation the evolution of the transmission nodal market triggers optimizing the design and location of generation sources to more reliably and economically meet the end-user power demand needs. Solar generation resources enjoy the flexibility of sizing and locating generators near load which promises a more distributed generation market,” said Ballouz.

Ballouz is also Vice President and Board member of the Texas Renewable Energy Industries Association (TREIA). TREIA is a partnering organization with SPI. On November 6, 2011 Ballouz is leading a pre-conference workshop at TREIA’s upcoming Texas Renewables 2011 Conference in Corpus Christi (November 6 – 9). This is the second of a series of annual workshops that join experts and electric energy engineers in Grid Integration, Development, and Implementation of solar generation and utility-scale solar. The Workshop will set the Platform for a series of technical studies to evaluate key project technical performance vital to the integration of solar generation for the electric utility as well as commercial developer. The workshop panel of speakers includes: ERCOT, American Superconductor, Sun Edison, & Solar Power Technologies.

Electric Power Engineers, Inc. has over 40 years of experience providing global custom design solutions for power delivery; planning, management and operation of transmission and distribution grids. EPE has extensive experience in guiding generation developers through the process of transmission grid interconnection, evaluation of energy deliverability, congestion and curtailment analysis, feasibility studies; EPE’s expertise include coordinating design/engineering/procurement of renewable generation facilities all the way to commissioning. With offices in the United States, Middle East, Europe and China, EPE has coordinated projects in over 28 states and in 7 countries.

AUSTIN, Texas news release
*** (BUSINESS WIRE) ***
***Also on KLBJ – 590 AM***

Electric Power Engineers of Austin is among more than 50 Texas business and government leaders speaking at Texas Renewables 2010, Texas' premier business-to-business meeting for anyone in or wanting to be in the Texas renewable energy industry.

Texas Renewable Energy Businesses
Ready today to meet Texas energy needs of tomorrow

Austin, TX, – Electric Power Engineers of Austin is one of many US companies whose representatives traveled to Los Angeles for the largest solar power event in North America. Solar Power International, SPI, the largest business-to-business solar energy conference in North America, has since inception in 2004 grown from 1,100 to over 24,000 attendees! Speaking about SPI, Hala N. Ballouz, president and CEO, Electric Power Engineers Inc. recognized the exponential growth in solar generation among renewable generation developers in the last few months. “Our business is doing nearly as many studies and designs for solar as for wind projects. Participating in the SPI conference in LA this week certainly emphasized how this industry has exploded. The solar industry is ready, the developers are at work and the electric grid is looking to embrace it. To capture this wave and release its energy, we should work together to ensure our legislature passes standards and incentives that are specific to solar generation.”

Ballouz is among over 50 Texas business and government leaders speaking at Texas Renewables 2010 www.texasrenewables.org, Texas' premier business-to-business meeting for anyone in or wanting to be in the Texas renewable energy industry. The conference takes place November 7-10 in San Antonio and is hosted by CPS Energy. The conference provides a venue for forming valuable B2B alliances and hearing speakers that keep industry sectors informed on the latest business developments, regulations, federal and state grants and other business opportunities. The conference starts Nov. 7th with the Texas International Business Connections Forum and continues with:

· Welcome by San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro

· Introduction keynote: Texas House Speaker, Joseph Straus (invited)

· Keynote Luncheon speaker PUC Chairman Barry Smitherman.

· Brian Lloyd, deputy director, budget, planning & policy, Office of Governor the State of Texas

· Dan Woodfin, director of system planning, ERCOT

· Dub Taylor director, SECO

· Jess Totten, director of policy, PUC

· Doug Ridge, manager, Texas Industry Cluster Initiative, Office of Governor the Texas

· Dwain Rogers, deputy commissioner renewable energy, Texas General Land Office

· Larry Jones, manager, Electric Transmission Texas

While at SPI Russel Smith, executive director, TREIA noted, “Since the last legislative session, Texas has moved from a tiny blip on the radar screen of the worldwide solar industry’s view of business development potential to a flashing signal that can’t be ignored. I’ve over heard comments in the halls that if the Texas Legislature passes a solar incentive program, a significant non-wind portfolio standard, or both, we could see Texas move quickly into the top tier of states for solar activity.

Texas Renewable Energy Industries Association (TREIA) www.treia.org, is the oldest renewable energy non-profit trade organization in Texas whose work promoting development of renewable resources and their wise use has spanned a quarter of a century.
